{"id":2749,"date":"2020-10-30T08:52:33","date_gmt":"2020-10-30T08:52:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/vis-gov.com\/?p=2749"},"modified":"2023-05-10T11:11:17","modified_gmt":"2023-05-10T11:11:17","slug":"trade-surplus-rises-to-record-high","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/visgl.com\/trade-surplus-rises-to-record-high\/","title":{"rendered":"Trade surplus rises to record high"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"author\">\n<p>By Dat Nguyen\u00a0 \u00a0October 30, 2020\u00a0 \u00a0 01:59 pm GMT+7<\/p>\n<div class=\"nav_share\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"vne_lazy_image lazyloaded\" style=\"color: #555555; font-size: 14.4px;\" src=\"https:\/\/i-english.vnecdn.net\/2020\/10\/30\/WEBsanxuatkhautrang43-16040309-4671-1420-1604030990_680x408.jpg\" alt=\"Trade surplus rises to record high\" data-original=\"https:\/\/i-english.vnecdn.net\/2020\/10\/30\/WEBsanxuatkhautrang43-16040309-4671-1420-1604030990_680x408.jpg\" \/><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"thumb_detail_top\">\n<div class=\"caption_thumb_detail_top\"><span style=\"font-size: 120%;\">Vietnam\u2019s trade surplus hit a record $18.72 billion in the first 10 months of this year as imports slowed down amid the Covid-19 pandemic.<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fck_detail\">\n<p class=\"Normal\">Exports grew at 4.7 percent year-on-year to $229.27 billion, with shipments of five items, namely smartphones, computers-electronics, textile-garment, machinery-equipment, and footwear, being worth at least $10 billion each, according to the General Statistics Office.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Normal\">Textile-garment and footwear exports declined by over 9 percent each as major buyers like the U.S. and the E.U. delayed or canceled orders due to the pandemic.<\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The U.S. remained the largest market with exports rising 24 percent to $62.3 billion, followed by China and the E.U.<\/p>\n<p>Imports grew by 0.4 percent, as against 7.8 percent in the same period last year, to $210.55 billion with garment, iron and steel and plastic seeing double-digit declines.<\/p>\n<p>China was the largest seller, with imports from that country rising by 6.2 percent to $65.8 billion, followed by South Korea and ASEAN.<\/p>\n<p>The GSO said since the pandemic is being well contained in Vietnam, most sectors are recovering.
